- Bring a medium pot of water to a boil (about 1–2 inches). Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water. Add the broccoli florets and cook for 3-4 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Sauté the onion in 2 tbsp of oil or butter. Add the cream of mushroom/celery soup, salt, and pepper. Then add the cheese. (Don't let it melt.)
- Pour the sauce on top of the broccoli, sprinkle with crackers, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10 minutes until it's crispy.

This type of casserole is usually cut into 6 servings (side dish) or 4 servings (if eaten as a main).
