Machine Translation Blunder

If you translated to Portuguese, you probably got something like this: Eu queria ver se EU gosto da nova fonte, então EU digitei: A raposa marrom rápida salta sobre o cão preguiçoso, which is a translation word-for-word. Clearly, the machine translator failed to recognize the pangram intent in our context. A pangram is a sentence that contains every letter of the alphabet. A more logical Portuguese translation would be: Marta foi à cozinha pois queria ver belo jogo de xicaras, which translates literally as "Marta went to the kitchen because she wanted to see [a] nice set of cups."

While MTs are great at converting words, they often stumble when it comes to conveying human intent because they simply cannot "read between the lines". That's why human translators will always be needed. 😁

Machine Translation Blunder PT

Se você traduziu para o inglês, provavelmente obteve algo assim: I wanted to see if I liked the new font, so I typed: Marta went to the kitchen because she wanted to see a nice set of cups, que é uma tradução literal (palavra por palavra). Claramente, o tradutor automático não conseguiu reconhecer a intenção do pangrama em nosso contexto. Um pangrama é uma frase que contém todas as letras do alfabeto. Uma tradução mais lógica para o inglês seria: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog, que se traduz literalmente como "A rápida raposa marrom salta sobre o cão preguiçoso."

Embora os tradutores de texto sejam excelentes na conversão de palavras, eles frequentemente tropeçam na hora de transmitir a intenção humana, pois simplesmente não conseguem "ler nas entrelinhas". É por isso que tradutores humanos sempre serão necessários.😁
