Q & A

  1. What is the difference between the sample and the Full Dictionary?
The Sample contains approximately 1,000 expressions, while the Dictionary includes over 5,000.
  2. Why can’t I access the Dictionary?
Access to the full version of the Dictionary requires a membership. When you purchase the printed Dictionary, you will automatically be registered as a member. To receive the access password, simply send us proof of purchase, which can be your purchase receipt.
  3. What language variants are used in the Dictionary?
For the most part, the Dictionary focuses on US English and Brazilian Portuguese. Occasionally, expressions from other variants have been included, primarily from British English (UK/GB), Australian English (AUS), and Irish English (IE). Some typically Portuguese (PT) expressions are also part of the Dictionary. These expressions have been labeled with the abbreviation for each variant in parentheses.
  4. Is it possible to search by topic? For example, if I want to find only idiomatic expressions referring to colors.
Yes. You can search multiple topics using these keywords (in parentheses) or their respective links.
  5. I searched for the expression “nail something down,” but I didn’t find anything. Does this mean it’s not in the Dictionary?
Not necessarily. We suggest trying other combinations. For example, “nail down something,” “nail down (something),” or “nail (something) down.” The pronouns “something,” “somebody,” “someone’s,” and “one’s” may or may not be enclosed in parentheses, which can affect your search results depending on the combinations you use.

If you can’t find a long expression, try using only the key terms. For example: “wild horses” instead of “wild horses could not drag (someone) away.”

  6. What does the blue star icon represent after the definition of each expression?
The blue star is used to introduce an example (or illustrative sentence) using the English expression. Each example is followed by the translation in parentheses.
  7. What makes this dictionary unique compared to its competitors?
This dictionary is the result of over two years of extensive research by the author, with the collaboration of other translators, cultural experts, and native speakers of English and Portuguese, in addition to his own cultural and linguistic background on the subject.

Each expression is accompanied by its respective translation and one or more illustrative examples in a bilingual format so that you can, at your discretion, verify the translation presented, either through a comparison or by consulting the reference sources that appear at the end of each entry. The Dictionary also includes interesting facts, etymologies, illustrative videos, etc.

The Dictionary covers over 5,000 expressions, including proverbs, sayings, and phrasal verbs, duly defined, exemplified, translated, and referenced.
