(Cut). ✰ "People just don't want you to cut in front of them, even though they are driving 15 km under the speed limit." (Jones apud Why do people). (As pessoas simplesmente não querem que você passe na frente delas, mesmo que estejam dirigindo 15 km abaixo do limite de velocidade.)

furar a fila - (EUA) passar na frente de outra pessoa em uma fila; não esperar a sua vez. (Cut). ✰ The shopper felt embarrassed when she realized she accidentally cut in line at the grocery store, so she promptly moved to the back, apologizing to those waiting. (A cliente ficou envergonhada ao perceber que sem querer furou a fila da mercearia, então imediatamente foi para o fim [da fila], pedindo desculpas aos que estavam esperando.)

jogar pedras no próprio telhado - piorar as coisas para si ao tentar prejudicar algo ou alguém. (Cut off). ✰ Jordin decided to quit her job out of anger, but in doing so, she was cutting off her nose to spite her face, as she had no other source of income lined up. (A Jordin decidiu largar o emprego por raiva, mas, ao fazê-lo, estava jogando pedras no próprio telhado, já que não tinha outra fonte de renda disponível.)

fazer de tudo por (alguém) - fazer qualquer coisa para agradar alguém. (Give right arm). Esta expressão é uma maneira figurada de dizer que alguém estaria disposto a fazer um sacrifício enorme, até mesmo perder algo muito valioso (como o braço direito) para ajudar ou beneficiar outra pessoa. Trata-se de um americanismo do século XX (ibidem), presumivelmente já bem conhecido quando Robert G. Dean o usou em Layoff (1942): ✰ “He’d cut off his right arm for her, as the saying goes.” (Ele faria de tudo por ela, como diz o ditado.)

(Ele cavou a sua própria sepultura quando apostou e perdeu os fundos que necessitava para manter o seu negócio em funcionamento.)

(Cut one's eyeteeth). ✰ She cut her eyeteeth on the fast-paced world of journalism, becoming an accomplished reporter. (Ela nasceu e cresceu no mundo acelerado do jornalismo, tornando-se uma repórter de sucesso.)

Corta essa! // Deixe de enrolação / bobagem / papo furado! // Pare de falar abobrinha! - ⚠ (gíria, rude) Esta expressão é usada quando queremos que alguém pare de dizer coisas que não são importantes ou verdadeiras. (Cut the crap). No português europeu equivale a “deixa-te de tretas”. Nos Estados Unidos e no Brasil há uma variante mais grosseira:
