cometer um ato falho / uma gafe / uma mancada - (Faux pas). ✰ "Bolsonaro criticized Charles's opinion on the Amazon, and committed a faux pas by touching the monarch." (Bolsonaro). (Bolsonaro criticou a opinião de Charles sobre a Amazônia, e cometeu um ato falho ao tocar o monarca.)

Faux pas significa literalmente "passo em falso" em francês, e essa é uma ótima descrição do que se faz quando se comete uma gafe. É uma questão de dar um passo na direção errada, ou dizer exatamente a coisa errada. Uma gafe pode ofender as pessoas às vezes, mas geralmente é apenas embaraçosa para todos os envolvidos. (Faux pas).

(As common). ✰ "George's like the rest of us, he's as common as an old shoe, but he likes to hobnob with the big people, so that's great." (Breslin apud Stevenson, 2018). (George é como o resto de nós, ele é classe baixa, mas gosta de conviver com gente graúda, então isso é ótimo.)
