incentivar/pressionar/repreender (algo ou alguém); ir atrás de (alguém); ver (algo); esforçar-se - (Get after, 2023). Este verbo frásico tem vários significados:
1. pressionar, incentivar ou repreender alguém por fazer algo. ✰ "I'll get after Tom about going to this interview—it's too important an opportunity to waste." (Ibidem). (Vou incentivar o Tom sobre ir a essa entrevista – ela é uma oportunidade importante demais para ser desperdiçada.)
2. perseguir alguém; ir atrás de. ✰ The police went after the burglar after they got a call from 911. (A polícia foi atrás do ladrão depois de receber uma ligação do 1-9-0.)
3. resolver algo que é problemático. ✰ "If your engine is making a weird sound, you better get after it before it becomes a real problem." (Ibidem). (Se o seu motor estiver fazendo um som estranho, recomendo que verifique isso antes que se torne um problema sério.)
4. esforçar-se para obter, alcançar ou realizar algo de forma intensa ou entusiástica; conseguir. ✰ "This will generate a decent pot of money to get after some big hefty mitigation spend."
