tentar (algo); ter uma chance (de conseguir algo); criticar (algo ou alguém) - (Have a shot at). Esta expressão tem múltiplos significados:
1. tentar (algo). ✰ Sixteen-year-old Maximilian had a shot at driving his uncle's motorboat. (O Maximiliano, de 16 anos, tentou dirigir o barco a motor do seu tio.)
2. ter uma chance (de conseguir algo). ✰ When I was in Vegas, I had a shot at one of the casinos. (Quando estive em Las Vegas, tive uma chance em um dos cassinos.)
3. (AUS) criticar algo ou alguém. ✰ "I had a shot at him this morning, so he already knows I'm unhappy with his proposal." (Ibidem). (Fiz-lhe uma crítica hoje de manhã, portanto ele já sabe que estou insatisfeito com a sua proposta.)

ter um AVC; ter um derrame - (med.) (Have a stroke). ✰ "If you have had a stroke, you can make great progress in regaining your independence. However, some problems may continue: Paralysis (inability to move some parts of the body), weakness, or both on one side of the body." (CDC). (Se você teve um AVC, você pode ter grandes progressos na recuperação da sua independência.
