Diz-se de uma transação (ger. envolvendo mercadorias) em que é permitido ao comprador o uso dos produtos por um certo período e a posterior devolução caso não atendam às suas expectativas ou necessidades, mesmo que não apresentem defeitos. salgar (alimento); economizar / guardar (algo); ocultar / esconder - (Salt (something) away). Esta expressão surgiu em meados do século XIX e tem vários significados:
1. (lit.) adicionar sal à comida; salgar. ✰ "The farmer’s wife salted the meats away for the winter." (Lee). (A esposa do fazendeiro salgava as carnes para o inverno.)
2. (fig.) guardar ou economizar algo, esp. para uso contingencial. ✰ The man was told that he should salt away enough money for his retirement. (Disseram ao homem que ele deveria economizar dinheiro suficiente para a sua aposentadoria.)
3. (fig.) guardar algo secretamente; esconder (sin. de stash away). ✰ The shady character was salting away his stash of smuggled goods to sell in the flea market. (O personagem obscuro estava escondendo seu estoque de mercadorias contrabandeadas para vender no mercado de pulgas.)
